SENT Speed Limiter for Euro VI Trucks and Vans
Type-approved speed limiter for the latest trucks and vans that use SENT (Single Edge Nibble Transmission) digital throttle sensors. UK made and fitted nationwide.
Key Features
SENT Protocol Native
Purpose-built for Single Edge Nibble Transmission throttle sensors - not a retrofit adaptor. Reads the SENT signal directly for accurate speed control.
Future-Proof Engineering
As vehicle manufacturers move from PWM to SENT throttle signals, your fleet stays compliant without replacing hardware.
Digital Precision
Nibble-level digital communication delivers smoother, more accurate speed limiting than analogue or legacy electronic systems.
Drop-In Installation
Designed to integrate with existing vehicle wiring harnesses. Typical installation time under 2 hours per vehicle.
The AutoKontrol SENT speed limiter is a type-approved speed limiter for the newest trucks and vans, the ones that use a SENT (Single Edge Nibble Transmission) digital throttle position sensor. If your vehicle has a SENT sensor, a traditional drive-by-wire speed limiter cannot work on it, and a SENT speed limiter is what you need. It is designed and manufactured in Chorley, Lancashire, EU/ECE R89 approved, and fitted at your premises anywhere in the UK.
As the automotive industry transitions beyond traditional drive-by-wire to SENT-based sensors, AutoKontrol leads the market with a purpose-built, certified solution.

Who the SENT Speed Limiter Is For
- HGV operators with Euro VI and later trucks. UK law requires goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes to be limited to 56mph (90km/h). On a truck with a SENT throttle sensor, the limiter has to be SENT-compatible.
- Van fleets running the latest vans. Speed limiters are voluntary on vans under 3.5 tonnes, but many fleets fit them for safety, fuel and insurance reasons. Compatible vehicles include newer vans such as the Ford Transit (2022+), Mercedes Sprinter (2023+) and Volkswagen Crafter (2022+).
- Fleets renewing or upgrading vehicles. If new vehicles are joining your fleet, a SENT limiter keeps them on the same speed policy as the rest.
- Mixed-age fleets. The unit also processes PWM signals on dual-protocol vehicles, making it a safe choice where older and newer vehicles run side by side.
What is SENT and Why Does It Matter?
SENT (Single Edge Nibble Transmission) is a digital communication protocol used by the latest vehicle throttle position sensors. Unlike older analogue or PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signals, SENT transmits throttle position data as a series of digital “nibbles”, providing higher accuracy, better noise immunity, and faster response times.
Major vehicle manufacturers including DAF, Mercedes, Scania, Volvo, and MAN have adopted SENT sensors in their Euro VI and later platforms. This means traditional drive-by-wire speed limiters that intercept analogue or PWM throttle signals cannot work on these newer vehicles. A SENT-specific speed limiter is required.
AutoKontrol’s SENT Speed Limiter was developed in-house specifically for this protocol. It is not an adapter or workaround: it reads the SENT signal natively and controls vehicle speed with the same precision and reliability that fleet operators expect from our DBW and System 80 products.
For a deeper technical explanation of the protocol, read our complete guide to SENT speed limiters.
How the SENT Speed Limiter Works
The SENT Speed Limiter is installed between the vehicle’s throttle position sensor and the engine ECU. It monitors the SENT data stream in real time and, when the vehicle reaches the preset speed limit, modifies the throttle position signal to prevent further acceleration.
The system operates transparently: the engine ECU sees a normal SENT signal at all times. There are no error codes, no check engine lights, and no interference with other vehicle systems. The speed limit is factory-set and secured with a tamper-evident seal.
Key Technical Advantages
- Direct SENT signal processing - no analogue conversion, no signal degradation
- Sub-millisecond response time - faster than legacy PWM-based systems
- Full diagnostic transparency - no DTC codes generated, no ECU conflicts
- Backwards compatible - the same unit can also process PWM signals on dual-protocol vehicles

Which Vehicles Need a SENT Speed Limiter?
If your vehicle was manufactured after 2019 and has a Euro VI (or later) engine, there is a high probability it uses a SENT throttle sensor. The following manufacturers have widely adopted SENT across their commercial vehicle ranges:
- DAF: XG, XG+, XF (2021+), CF (2021+)
- Mercedes: Actros MP5, Arocs (2021+), new Atego
- Scania: Super range (2021+), all new-generation trucks
- Volvo: FH, FM, FMX (2021+), FE/FL (2022+)
- MAN: TGX, TGS, TGL (2020+ new generation)
- Iveco: S-Way, new Daily (2022+)
- Renault: T High, T, D, C range (2021+)

SENT vs DBW: Which Speed Limiter Do I Need?
| Feature | SENT Speed Limiter | DBW Speed Limiter |
|---|---|---|
| Throttle type | SENT digital sensor | PWM / analogue electronic |
| Vehicle age | 2019+ (Euro VI late / Euro VII) | 2000-2020 (Euro III-VI) |
| Signal type | Digital nibble transmission | Pulse width or voltage |
| Best for | Latest-generation trucks and vans | Established electronic-throttle vehicles |
Not sure? Many vehicles in transition use dual-protocol sensors. Our SENT Speed Limiter supports both SENT and PWM, making it a safe choice for mixed-age fleets. You can also compare every option in our speed limiter range.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my truck or van needs a SENT speed limiter?
If the vehicle was manufactured after 2019 and has a Euro VI (or later) engine, there is a high probability it uses a SENT throttle sensor. Tell us the make, model and year and our technical team will carry out a free compatibility check before anything is ordered.
What happens if I fit a DBW limiter to a SENT vehicle?
It won’t work. The DBW limiter expects a PWM or analogue signal. A SENT vehicle transmits digital nibbles that the DBW unit cannot interpret. You will get either no speed limiting or engine fault codes. Always verify your vehicle’s throttle protocol before ordering.
Is the SENT speed limiter type-approved?
Yes. The AutoKontrol SENT speed limiter is EU/ECE R89 approved and certified by UTAC, TÜV and VCA. Each unit is sealed with a tamper-evident seal carrying a unique serial number.
Do you fit SENT speed limiters across the UK?
Yes. Our approved mobile installers fit at your premises anywhere in the UK, and typical installation time is 90-120 minutes per vehicle.
Can the SENT limiter be retrofitted to older vehicles?
The SENT limiter is designed for SENT-protocol vehicles. For older vehicles with analogue or PWM throttle signals, use our DBW Speed Limiter. For cable-throttle vehicles, use the System 80.
Is the SENT limiter more expensive than the DBW?
Pricing is comparable. The SENT limiter uses more advanced signal processing hardware, but AutoKontrol maintains competitive pricing across all product lines. Request a quote for your specific fleet requirements.
